GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City Airport will receive a $199,386 state grant for a runway improvement project.
The grant will pay for removing trees that obstruct a runway.
The grant involves state and federal funds and comes through the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation's Block Grant and Aviation Development programs.
Recycling collection
CALCUTTA -- Computers, monitors and printers will be accepted at the Beaver Creek Wildlife Education Center's recycling collection from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 14 in the Giant Eagle-Kmart parking lot.
Paper to be recycled should be packed into brown paper bags, smaller plastic bags or cardboard boxes.
Other items accepted include copper, aluminum, cardboard of all kinds, newspapers, magazines, phone books, junk mail, office and school paper, catalogs, hard-cover books including text books, paperback books and notebooks.
Englishes' taxes
SHARON, Pa. -- U.S. Rep. Phil English of Erie, R-3rd, and his wife, Chris, paid more than $34,000 in federal income taxes last year.
English, as he has done in the past, released his tax records, saying the public that elects him has the right to know his financial status. He has made his tax returns available to the press for review.
The congressman said he paid $34,643 in federal taxes, $4,535 in state taxes and $1,759 in local taxes.
English has always given his annual congressional pay raise to charities within his district and did the same in 2003, dividing the money between 18 various charitable organizations.
New online scam
Pennsylvania State Police are warning citizens of a new online scam that involves an e-mail claiming to be from "CitiBank" corporation. The e-mail requests a confirmation of the recipient's banking details. Police warn that this e-mail is not from CitiBank.
State police remind everyone to never respond to an unsolicited e-mail or phone call that requests sensitive information relative to banking or other financial institutions.
Loader contest winner
LISBON -- Brent Rose of Hammondsville, a worker at the Ohio Department of Transportation's garage near Lisbon, won this year's district loader competition earlier this week.
Workers compete by moving back and forth, picking up and carrying objects, and maneuvering through tight places and putting objects in specific places.
Rose had a perfect score and the fastest time. He competed against 27 other workers from seven counties. Last year, he won the truck competition. Rose will go on to compete in the state competition at the state fairgrounds.
