SANDLOT BASEBALL Bud's on top to stay alive
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Bud's/Pal Joey's team worked its way out of the loser's bracket Friday to stay alive in the National Amateur Baseball Federation Major Regional Baseball tournament.
After being pummeled 10-2 by unbeaten Cleveland TCM, Bud's/Pal Joey's eliminated Nature Stone Bulls, 7-6, at Pemberton-Donnell Park.
Roth Brothers, which lost twice, and BCO Warren were eliminated.
Roth was blanked by unbeaten Brunswick, 10-0, then bowed to Pizza Oven, 6-1.
Purdue Chicks downed BCO Warren, 10-0.
Action continues this morning at 11 as Brunswick takes on Cleveland TCM at Oakland, Steve's Sports goes against Perdue Chicks at Koch and Bud's/Pal Joey's meets Pizza Oven at Pemberton.
Class B
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. -- J.C. McCoy hit two doubles and a single and drove in three runs, as Rondinelli Tuxedo-Wharmby Sports of the Class B League posted a 6-3 win over the Ottawa Canadians in the 19-and-under East Coast National Championship tournament at the Penn State University Shaner Baseball complex.
Tom Popidak was the winning pitcher while Joe Burniett picked up the save. Cody Dillon hit a two-run home run and two singles for the winners.
In an earlier game, Rondinelli-Wharmby lost to Boston Lou Vilorro, 3-1. Alex Oles scattered five hits and had five strikeouts in a losing cause. Billy Herman went 3-for-3.
Rondinelli-Wharmby is scheduled to play tonight at 8.
