DENISON UNIVERSITY, GRANVILLE
Senior Lauren Gilanyi, daughter of Barb and John Gilanyi of Herr Road, Southington, has been inducted into Denison's chapter of the Mortar Board.
Mortar Board is a national student honorary society based on scholarship, leadership and service.
Founded in 1918, this national honorary strives to promote academic excellence while emphasizing community, cultural and social involvement. Denison's Mortar Board chapter was created in 1936.
Membership is limited to those seniors who have achieved a minimum overall grade point average of 3.0 and who have demonstrated leadership and service in the Denison community.
Gilanyi is a 2001 graduate of LaBrae Local High School. She is pursuing a double major in English literature and education.
She will serve as historian for the coming school year.
MOUNT VERNON NAZARENE UNIVERSITY
Raymond Cunningham of Boardman was recognized for his accomplishments during a special awards convocation at Mount Vernon. Cunningham was chosen as vice president of academic life. A senior majoring in middle childhood education, he is the son of John and Dorothy Cunningham.
Affiliated with the Church of the Nazarene, Mount Vernon is a Christian teaching university.
WESTMINSTER COLLEGE
Several area students were among those who recently took a trip to Australia as part of a biology class. The students' experience included a 27-hour plane ride, snorkeling and visiting with aborigines.
Those taking the trip from this area were Nawal Rajeh, an Austintown Fitch High School graduate and daughter of Ghassan and Soumaya Rajeh; Katie Schultz, a Mercer High School graduate and daughter of Robert and Jean Schultz; and Michelle Evakich, a Sharon High School graduate and daughter of David and Pamela Evakich.
