STAMBAUGH AUDITORIUM Ballroom will swing with jazz music
The leading jazz trio sold out the show last year.
YOUNGSTOWN -- "Swingin' the Benny Goodman Songbook," set in a supper-club atmosphere in the Grand Ballroom at Stambaugh Auditorium, 1000 Fifth Ave., will be jazz singer Terry Blaine and trio mates, pianist Mark Shane and clarinetist Allan Vach & eacute;.
The threesome performed at Stambaugh last September in a sold-out show.
Stambaugh Pillars will present the program at 7 p.m. Sept. 10 with WSOM-AM Radio hosts for the evening -- Johnny Kay, Dick Thompson and Gary Rahmy.
The performers
Blaine, recognized as a leading jazz-swing vocalist, will offer a repertoire of swing from the late 1920s through the 1940s.
Blaine studied classical flute in college and after graduation sang back-up vocals with pop act Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons. She made the transition from pop to jazz when she met Shane, who shared her interest in swing.
Blaine and Shane, who have worked together some 20 years, recorded the CD "Whose Honey are You," which was a Jazz Journal Record of the Year. Another Blaine-Shane collaboration is "Lonesome Swallow."
Shane continues the tradition of swing and lyrical melodic improvisation. He played with Benny Goodman and was featured at the 50th Anniversary Benny Goodman Memorial Concert at Carnegie Hall.
Vach & eacute;, also known as a versatile solo performer, has remained true to the Benny Goodman style of swing playing. He has a busy schedule of concerts, recordings and appearances worldwide.
