CAMPBELL -- A Niles man was in critical condition this morning in St. Elizabeth Health Center with a gunshot wound to the abdomen.
Gabriel S. Green, 19, of North Road, was apparently shot late Sunday on Jean Street in the Kirwan Homes development and then driven to the hospital in a private vehicle. A Jean Street resident told police that she heard two or three gunshots about 11 p.m. but did not report it because it is a common occurrence.
School vandalism
STRUTHERS -- Police are seeking information regarding recent vandalism to the high school, stadium and wellness center. A high school custodian discovered Friday that two outside doors leading into the wellness center had been marked with vulgarities. Vandals also painted graffiti on a light pole and three walls of the stadium and broke about 25 glass block windows on the east side of the bleachers. The janitor told police he thinks the vandalism took place July 28.
Bicyclist's assault charge
YOUNGSTOWN -- A bicycle rider accused of shooting a car waived his preliminary hearing Monday, and Municipal Court Judge Robert A. Douglas Jr. sent the case to a Mahoning County grand jury. Prosecutors said that Jason Winston, 19, of West Indianola Avenue, fired a shot into a couple's car July 23 because he thought the car had pulled too close to him. Winston is charged with two counts of felonious assault and one count each of carrying a concealed weapon and illegal possession of a weapon based on a prior conviction. He was convicted of attempted aggravated trafficking in drugs and placed on two years' probation in February 2003. The judge continued Winston's $150,000 bond. Judge Douglas previously ordered that Winston be placed on electronically monitored house arrest if he makes bond.
Burglar bleeds in house
YOUNGSTOWN -- A man who lives in the 400 block of Garfield Street arrived home Sunday and found that someone had bled inside his house, city police said. Police said the resident left home at 7:30 a.m. and returned at 3 p.m. and found a broken front window and rear door. Police said they found blood on the couch and in the kitchen and rear door area. Police couldn't tell whether the person came in through the door or the window. The resident was unable to determine if anything was missing, police said.
Domestic assault
YOUNGSTOWN -- Police said this morning that a 39-year-old Winchester Avenue woman was held against her will for about 22 hours from Sunday to Monday in her home by her live-in boyfriend.
The victim told police she was stripped naked, choked several times, punched, hit in the head with a pistol and a flashlight and bitten by her assailant between about 4 p.m. Sunday and 2 p.m. Monday. She was treated at St. Elizabeth Health Center.
Man snatches purse
LIBERTY -- One woman's purse was snatched and a second woman foiled an attempt, both outside a grocery store.
A 63-year-old Brookfield woman told police she was putting groceries into her car at Save-A-Lot, 3551 Belmont Ave., about 5:45 p.m. Friday when a car drove up. A man snatched her purse and drove away. About two hours earlier, an 84-year-old woman told police she was putting her groceries into her car when a car pulled up and a man got out and grabbed her purse. The woman pulled the purse away from him and he fled in his car. The man, in both cases, was described as a black male with a stocky build wearing a white shirt.
CSEA public forums
WARREN -- The Trumbull County Child Support Enforcement Agency will be holding public forums this month as part of Child Support Enforcement Month to explain the agency's work.
Forums will be at 7 p.m. Aug. 10 at Frankie's Main Street Cafe, Hubbard, and at 7 p.m. Aug. 17 in the county commissioners' hearing room in the county administration building, Warren.
Child-porn suspect
AUSTINTOWN -- A Spring Meadow Circle man accused by police of distributing child pornography is set to turn himself in to officers Thursday, Detective Sgt. Frank Tomasino said.
Wladyslaw "Walter" Piskor, 62, is charged with pandering obscenity involving a minor, pandering sexually oriented material involving a minor, illegal use of a minor in nudity-oriented material and possession of criminal tools. The charges are felonies. A warrant was issued for Piskor's arrest Friday.
