GIRARD -- An arrest warrant was issued today for a Youngstown man in the beating, stabbing and shooting of a city man.
The warrant was issued for Jabbar Spires, 27, whose last known address was Catalina Avenue, on a charge of felonious assault.
Capt. Frank Bigowsky said Timothy McCauley, 24, of 72 Mosier Road, Apt. 2, was beaten, stabbed and shot in the stomach Saturday afternoon.
McCauley remains in stable condition today in St. Elizabeth Health Center, where he is being treated for multiple cuts and bruises in addition to the bullet wound.
According to the police report, neighbors heard shots fired shortly before 1:30 p.m. from the duplex in which McCauley lives.
Bigowsky said McCauley emerged from the first-floor window onto the porch and got into a vehicle.
Meanwhile, neighbors called police and said they saw a man walk from the duplex carrying a bag, get into a Dodge Caravan and leave. Bigowsky said that man, identified as Spires, honked the vehicle horn at neighbors as he drove off.
Search warrant
The captain explained that police obtained a search warrant for McCauley's apartment, seizing firearms, drugs and money.
Bigowsky said marijuana plants were also found growing in the attic.
The duplex had two surveillance cameras on the outside. the captain said, adding that he will confer with the prosecutor's office concerning charges against McCauley.
Bigowsky said the motive for the shooting was either a drug deal gone bad or Spires' attempting to steal drugs.
Spires has a criminal history that includes drug and firearms violations, domestic violence and aggravated menacing, the captain said.
