Aeros bombed by Reading Saturday night
AKRON (AP) -- John Castellano and Ryan Fleming hit home runs, and Reading's 19-hit attack tallied at least one run in each of the first six innings. The Phillies thrashed the Akron Aeros 18-7 Saturday night in the Eastern League.
Carlos Ruiz went 4-for-6. Fleming and Kurt Keene each had three hits, and one of Keene's was a triple. Sean Walsh drove in four runs.
It was 1-1 after the first inning. Reading scored twice in the second, six more in the third and three in the fourth to go up 12-1.
Jason Cooper's two-run homer helped Akron score four times in the fourth inning.
The Aeros' outburst only fired up the Phillies more. Reading surged to lead 18-5 after the sixth.
Elizardo Ramirez (2-4) gave up five runs and 10 of Akron's 17 hits in five innings, but that was good enough to earn the win.
Reading got to Akron starter Dan Denham (3-2) for eight runs and eight hits in 21/3 innings. Relievers Victor Kleine and Chris Cooper were also treated harshly. But Shea Douglas then pitched three perfect innings for the Aeros.
