SOUTH SIDE 2 men arrested after gunbattle that took place over several hours

YOUNGSTOWN -- Two 28-year-old West Evergreen Avenue men have been arrested on felonious assault charges after shootings on the city's South Side.
Charged were Sean Burgess and Anthony T. Floyd.
The rolling gunbattle started after midnight on Thursday morning and ended at 6:40 a.m. that day with the arrests of Burgess and Floyd, reports show.
Burgess told police he was driving north on Hillman Street shortly after midnight, when Floyd, who was driving south, fired two shots from a 9mm handgun.
One round was slowed enough going through the driver's side door that it caused only a bruise and slight swelling when it hit Burgess in the leg. The second bullet damaged the taillight assembly without penetrating the GMC Yukon Denali.
Floyd told police Burgess shot up his house at 3 a.m. with a shotgun, and police said they found two shotgun waddings in the front yard of Floyd's residence that seemed to match spent shotgun shells in the Yukon that Burgess drove. Police said they also found two spent AK-47 shells in the street in front of Floyd's home.
Took children to school
Burgess told police he hid the GMC Yukon Denali in his garage and borrowed his mother's Pontiac Grand Am to take his children to school.
Burgess said he drove his children to school in the Pontiac at 6 a.m. and was fired upon as he passed Floyd's house.
The Pontiac had bullet holes in the front windshield and passenger-side door and damage to the driver's-side rear door, which Burgess said came from a brick Floyd threw at it. The driver's-side rear window was also broken out.
Police also found in the rear yard of a house in the 500 block of West Evergreen a shot-up Dodge Neon, containing a single spent AK-47 round. Police weren't sure if the Neon was involved in the same series of incidents.
Because of the cross-complaints of felonious assault and evidence suggesting Burgess and Floyd fired at each other, both men were arrested and jailed, police said. Police reports did not reveal any motives for the shootings.
Police also said they were checking a report of a house on Rush Boulevard being shot up at 3:50 a.m. and trying to determine whether it was related to the above reports.
