PREP BASEBALL Fitch finishes rally, soars to first place
Mooney defeated Ursuline in the Steel Valley Conference.
NORTH CANTON -- A two-run double by junior Mike Eliseo put the Austintown Fitch High baseball team into first place in the Federal League standings Thursday.
The Falcons scored three times in the top of the seventh inning to beat North Canton Hoover 5-3.
The Vikings (5-9, 4-4 FL) scored three times in the third and clung to a 3-2 lead after six innings.
With two outs in the seventh, Dom Modarelli tied the score with an RBI double for the Falcons (11-3, 4-2).
After Bob Melnek was walked, Eliseo doubled to right-center field to score both runners.
Alex Oles (2-0) struck out four of the six batters he faced to get the decision.
Boardman 15, Canton McKinley 0
CANTON -- Kevin Sikora and Matt Madrid of the Spartans combined to pitch a two-hitter in a Federal League game. Sikora (3-1) hit a pair of doubles and Madrid hit a home run.

HOWLAND -- Adam Solich worked six innings to pick up the win in the Metro Athletic Conference game that was suspended April 12.
Manoli Pahoulis, Jared Bartholomew and Tony Pezega all doubled.
In the second game, the Bulldogs (9-5, 5-2) scored at least two runs in every inning but the fourth as they collected 17 hits.
Adam Wigley worked six innings, allowed only two hits and struck out nine to pick up the win. He also hit a home run. Bartholomew hit a solo home run for the Tigers.
Chaney 10, Struthers 5
STRUTHERS -- Jeff Shaffo homered and tripled, and drove in three runs for the Cowboys (12-2).
Brian Kopachy, Adam Boris, Aaron Boris and Ron Palowitz had two hits each for Chaney.
For Struthers (3-11), Joel LaRiccia and Dave Matthews each had two hits.
Youngstown Christian 14, Rayen 4
STRUTHERS -- Mike Byrdy had two triples, a single and four RBIs to lead Youngstown Christian in a six-inning game at Cene Park.
Mark Pecchia added a double, two singles and three RBIs for the Eagles (6-1). Pat Bader had a double, three singles and an RBI and Kory Cooper had two singles and two RBIs.
For Rayen, Troy Rice had two singles and an RBI.
Campbell 12, Wilson 2
YOUNGSTOWN -- Lonnie McQueen had three singles and Jim Samonas and Stan Gozur doubled for the Red Devils (11-5).
Mooney 7, Ursuline 5
STRUTHERS -- Jeff Hehr collected a homer and a single, Kyle McCarthy had a double and a single and Jim Berry doubled for the Cardinals (6-10, 2-3 Steel Valley Conference).
Sean Satterlee went 3-for-3 and Cliff Panezich doubled for the Irish.
Crestview 12, Leetonia 1
LEETONIA -- Jason Beachler (3-2) pitched a three-hitter, striking out four and walking one, to lead Crestview (4-9, 3-5) in a Tri-County League game.
Landon Berger was 3-for-4 with a double for Crestview, while Kirk Pflugh was 2-for-3 with a double.
West Branch 7, Marlington 6
BELOIT -- John Wallace's four hits included a double and four RBIs for the Warriors (7-10, 3-6 Northeastern Buckeye Conference). Tom Orlando homered, Justin Grove tripled and Steve Hilliard hit a two-run double.
