Conger's four-hitter paces Poland in MAC



Struthers scored twice in the seventh to beat Salem.
POLAND -- Winning pitcher Mallory Conger drove in the only run Thursday as Poland defeated Howland 1-0 in a Metro Athletic Conference softball game.
Conger (10-2) allowed just four singles to out-duel Howland's Barbie Lewis (10-4).
Conger struck out six and walked none as the Bulldogs (14-3, 6-1) remained in first-place in the MAC. Lewis gave up eight hits and two walks and struck out two.
Kari Thompson singled to lead off the bottom of the sixth inning and Heidi Dobran came on to run. Ciera Urichich singled Dobran to second and Britt Davis walked to load the bases. Conger singled on a slow roller along the third-base line that brought home Dobran.
Krista Ginnetti singled twice for Poland.
Struthers 4, Salem 3
STRUTHERS -- The Wildcats (6-10, 4-5 MAC) rallied for two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning.
With one out, Allison Ginnetti doubled and scored on a double by Michelle High. High scored on a groundout by catcher Holly Hickenbottom.
Annie Grischow and Miranda Polito each hit two singles for Struthers. Stephanie Szabat and Krystal Finley had two hits apiece for the Quakers.
Ursuline 5, Mineral Ridge 2
MINERAL RIDGE -- Courtney Davidson had three hits, two stolen bases and scored twice for the Irish (15-3).
Winning pitcher Maureen Cearfoss (14-3) had two hits and drove in two runs. She struck out six.
For Mineral Ridge (10-3), Bre Ann Omerzo's two hits included a triple. Katie Olive doubled.
Springfield 2, Western Reserve 0
BERLIN CENTER -- Brittany Marinelli hit a double for the Tigers (5-3 ICL), while teammate Colleen Platt, the winning pitcher, hit three singles.
Lowellville 2, Campbell 0
CAMPBELL -- Lindsay Wilson and Carla Blinsky combined on a one-hitter for Lowellville.
Wilson (2-0) and Blinsky struck out seven Campbell (1-10) batters.
The Rockets took a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Juli Peterson walked and Jacque Schrader reached base on an error. Both moved up on a double steal. Peterson then scored on Blinsky's sacrifice fly.
Crestview 7, Leetonia 4
LEETONIA -- Jessica Sferra scattered six hits and struck out 11 for the Rebels, who scored four runs in the seventh inning.
Kelsie Ray had two hits and three RBIs for Crestview, while Jen Harroff and Lisa Workman added two hits each.
Marlington 11, West Branch 1
BELOIT -- Vana Morgan (3-7) took the loss for the Warriors, who were held to one hit, a bunt single by Ellie Geiger.
