Cavalier will undergoonly minor changes
LORDSTOWN -- Only minor modifications are planned for the Chevrolet Cavalier when the annual production line changeover begins May 17 at the General Motors Lordstown Complex. Tom Mock, a GM spokesman, said the improvements will be "transparent" to the consumer, however, because no exterior changes are planned. Production will continue during the changeover process, he said.
Meanwhile, Mock said, the last Pontiac Sunfires will likely roll off the assembly line at General Motors Lordstown Complex next week. He said he doesn't know yet whether Sunfire production will continue through May 7 or will end earlier that week.
"After that we'll go full boat on the Cavalier until mid-October, when we launch the Cobalt," Mock said.
The Cobalt is GM's premium subcompact replacement for the Cavalier. GM is spending about $1 billion to upgrade the assembly plant and adjacent fabrication plant to accommodate the Cobalt.
