Police: Man used car in jealous rage
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Police said a borough man used his car to try to run down his ex-girlfriend's new boyfriend on South Center Street.
The victim was hit but not seriously injured, police said.
Earl L. Franklin III, 24, of Tidball Avenue, remained in Mercer County Jail late Tuesday after he failed to post $50,000 bond on charges of attempted homicide, aggravated assault, causing an accident causing death or personal injury, recklessly endangering another person and reckless driving.
Police said Franklin is accused of striking Varick Vanistendael, 28, of William Flynn Highway, Slippery Rock, with his car as Vanistendael waited to cross the street Thursday.
The victim is dating a woman who recently broke off a relationship with Franklin, police said.
Police said Vanistendael told them that Franklin veered off the street to hit him.
The injured man was treated at United Community Hospital.
Franklin was arrested on a warrant hours after the assault.
