Canfield's Banna, Pulakos combine for two-hitter



The Cardinals posted their 15th win with a 2-0 decision over Alliance.
ALLIANCE -- Canfield High pitchers Rick Banna and Mike Pulakos combined for a two-hitter to lead the Cardinals to a 2-0 victory over Alliance, in a Metro Athletic Conference baseball game on Monday.
Banna (5-0) had nine strikeouts and walked two in five innings for the Cardinals (15-2, 5-0 MAC). John Virostko and Joe Pitzer each had two hits.
Jim Enright (4-1) got the loss for Alliance (10-5, 4-2).
Poland 16, Campbell 2
CAMPBELL -- Every player in Poland's starting lineup got at least one hit, as the Bulldogs collected 19 hits in all and scored at least two runs in every inning.
Dan Bertolini went 4-for-5 and scored three times for Poland (8-4).
Adam Wigley had five hits and three RBIs, Brett Pitzulo had three hits and four RBIs, and Tom Clayton went 3-for-4 with two RBIs.
Niles 8, Howland 2
NILES -- Jeff Claar pitched a complete game to pick up the win for Niles.
The Red Dragons (7-2, 4-2) scored three runs in the first inning, then put the game out of reach as they scored four more times in the sixth.
Mark McGuire paced Niles with two hits and two RBIs. Joe Sabat led the Tigers with two hits.
Salem 15, Struthers 8
STRUTHERS -- Cody Dillon went 3-for-5, with a triple and double, scored three times and drove in four runs, to lead the Quakers (11-4, 3-3 MAC).
Mark Kolich doubled twice for Salem, while Grant Sevek and Craig Hritz had two singles apiece and Landon Heath doubled.
Struthers (2-10, 0-7) was led by Dave Mathews, who had three hits, including a triple, and had five RBIs. Adam Wilaj also hit a triple, along with a single, and Steve Stenglein and Joel Laricca both doubled.
Hubbard 9, Liberty 3
HUBBARD -- The Eagles scored five runs in the first two innings to take control in a Trumbull Athletic Conference game.
Ryan Hallopy hit a home run, double, drove in three runs and scored twice to pace the Eagles.
Marc Doblanski hit a double and drove in two runs for the Leopards.
