Bleggi flips one-hitter
The Canfield sophomore struck out eight in a 1-0 win over Alliance.
CANFIELD -- Canfield High sophomore Ashley Bleggi threw a complete-game one-hitter, and Jenny Naples scored in the bottom of the eighth inning, as the Cardinals beat Alliance, 1-0, in a Metro Athletic Conference game on Monday.
Bleggi (3-3) struck out eight and walked one, giving up the lone hit in the top of the seventh. Naples tripled and scored on Stephanie Zunic's hit. Whitney Zunic also had a triple for Canfield (9-5, 3-2).
Devin Vance (4-5) got the loss for Alliance (6-8).
Struthers 4, Salem 3, 10 innings
SALEM -- Ashley Ruozzo scored the game-winner in the top of the 10th to lift Struthers.
Ruozzo, who started the inning at second, was sacrificed to third by Meghan Kunzer and scored on a wild pitch for Struthers (5-9, 3-4).
Salem's Molly Colian started at second in the bottom of the 10th and moved to third on a single by Krystal Finley, who then stole second. But Struthers third baseman Holly Hickenbottom made a diving catch of a foul ball and threw out Finley at third to help end the threat.
Freshman Brittiany Gregory had two triples for Salem (2-11, 0-6), while Finley added two hits.
Kunzer, Hickenbottom, Michelle High and Annie Grischow added two hits for Struthers.
Mineral Ridge 14,Jackson-Milton 3
NORTH JACKSON -- Mineral Ridge scored 10 runs in the top of the sixth to upend the Bluejays in an Inter-County League game.
Kaili Gehring (9-0) doubled and got the win for Mineral Ridge (9-2, 7-0), while Katie Olive had a double and a triple. Robin Zimmerman and Sarah Stark added doubles.
Kara Conrad doubled for Jackson-Milton (9-7, 4-2), which scored three runs in the first inning.
South Range 9, McDonald 4
NORTH LIMA -- Jessica Spickler singled three times and Heather Stacy doubled for the Raiders (4-4, 2-2 ICL).
South Range scored five runs in the first inning.
Springfield 16, Lowellville 1
NEW MIDDLETOWN -- Colleen Platt singled four times while Danielle Dewitt and Kristy Warren each had three hits for the Tigers (6-4, 4-2 ICL).
Warren doubled in a 22-hit attack.
