8-bout pro boxing card set for May 21 at Byzantine Center

YOUNGSTOWN -- Professional boxing returns to Youngstown May 21 with an eight-bout card at the Byzantine Center at the Grove on Shady Run Road.
The card is promoted by Jack Loew and Jim "Tank" DiCioccio of the Southside Boxing Club, in association with Coors Light.
The main event is a junior middleweight six-rounder featuring Billy Lyell (4-1, 3 knockouts) from Niles against an opponent to be named.
A six-round heavyweight co-feature will pit hard-punching Chris Koval (16-1, 14 knockouts) from Austintown against Rocky Phillips (20-10, 12 knockouts) from Dayton.
Youngstown's Durrell Richardson, who just made his pro debut with a victory, is billed in a four-round welterweight bout against Akron's Gonzalee Jones.
Pro debuts
In a four-round super middleweight bout ,Youngstown's Darnell Boone will make his pro debut against Rashund Smith from New Castle.
Warren's Zach Page will be in the ring with Cleveland's Roosevelt Johnson in the pro debut for both fighters, as they square off in a cruiserweight four-rounder.
Another six-rounder will pair Sharon's Anthony Pietrantonio (3-0) against James North (2-3) from Beckley, W. Va.
And in a lightweight four-rounder, Salem's Davey McBride (2-1) will meet Boardman's John Swanson, who is making his pro debut.
The next step
"We have accomplished a lot with amateur boxing and now it is time for good local fighters to take their talent to the next level," said Loew. "A step up to pro boxing with local reputable sponsors helping us put on fight shows is what boxing fans of the Mahoning Valley deserve."
Tickets are $35 for ringside and $20 for general admission and available at the following locations: Pete and Charlie's Pub, Mahoning Avenue; Trax Lounge, New Road; Southside Boxing Club, Erie Street; Bobby D's, E. Midlothian; LaVilla Sports Bar & amp; Grille, Youngstown Poland Road; McMenamy's, Youngstown-Warren Road, and The Fireplace, E. Western Reserve Road.
The doors will open at 6 p.m. with the first bout at 7:30.

"It is time for professional boxing with local fighters to be shown in this area, and with some success this will be a first of a series of local boxing shows that we will be promoting," said DiCioccio.
"With the success of these shows, and hopeful good showings by Billy Lyell, Bobby Hitz Promotions of Chicago who has a promotional contract with us for Lyell is anxious to bring television here for future shows."
DiCioccio, a boyhood friend of Ray "Boom Boom" Mancini's who was involved in the former lightweight champion's career, will bring Mancini to Youngstown the week of the fights to help promote the card.
