TAMPA, Fla. -- Nikolai Khabibulin stopped 26 shots to improve to 6-1 in the playoffs and Vincent Lecavalier scored two goals for the second straight game as Tampa Bay won its fifth straight overall and second straight in this series. Game 3 is Tuesday night in Montreal.
Tampa Bay turned an early two-man advantage into an a lead on Lecavalier's power-play goal, assisted by Martin St. Louis and Dave Andreychuk, just 2:35 into the game. Fredrik Modin scored on a rebound for a 2-0 lead, and Lecavalier made it 3-1 when he beat Montreal goalie Jose Theodore on a breakaway just before the end of the second period.
Saku Koivu scored Montreal's first goal of the series in the second period when he lifted the rebound of his own shot over the outstretched leg of Khabibulin. Khabibulin has stopped 184 of 189 shots while allowing just five goals in seven games.
Koivu's goal ended the Tampa Bay netminder's shutout streak at 93 minutes, 19 seconds, dating to the third period of Tampa Bay's overtime win in Game 5 of their first-round series against the New York Islanders.
