Late innings are kind to Quakers; J-Milton and Southeast split DH



SALEM -- The Salem High baseball team rallied twice Saturday to defeat rival West Branch, 10-7 and 5-4.
West Branch held a 4-1 lead in the opener before the Quakers scored nine runs in the fifth and sixth innings. Salem pushed across the winning run in the seventh inning of Game 2.
Grant Sevek extended his hitting streak to 14 games by going 5-for-8, with three runs scored and three RBIs, for Salem (10-4). Mark Kolich went 4-for-7, scoring four runs, while Landon Heath was 4-for-6, with two runs scored and three RBIs.
Kolich and Travis Milliron were the winning pitchers.
Josh Winans had three hits in the doubleheader for West Branch (6-9), including a home run.
John Wallace and Jim King each had two hits for the day. Tad Gaspar and Marc Possage were the losing pitchers.
Southeast 5, Jackson-Milton 4Jackson-Milton 10, Southeast 7
RAVENNA -- The Pirates scored the winning run in the 10th inning of the opener, but Jackson-Milton used a fast start in the second game to split the series.
Matt Shields singled twice for the Bluejays in Game 1. Shields and Adam Keck had two hits apiece in the second game.
Softball
South Range won its first Inter-County League game of the season with a 5-2 victory over Lowellville.
Skye Walley had eight strikeouts for the Raiders (3-5, 1-2), while Jessica Spickler had two singles and an RBI and Lynn O'Connell two singles.
For Lowellville (1-8, 0-8), Carla Blinsky doubled and drove in a run, and Casey Wilson singled, with an RBI. Blinsky suffered the loss.
