Buckeyes break record with 14 players chosen

Ohio State had seven more players selected in the second day of the draft.
COLUMBUS (AP) -- NFL teams chose seven more Ohio State players Sunday, bringing to 14 the number of Buckeyes taken in the two-day draft, the most from one school since the league cut the draft to seven rounds.
The previous record for one school was set in 2002 when 11 Miami Hurricanes were selected. The draft was shortened to seven rounds in 1994.
"This has been a tremendous class of young men, blessed with extraordinary talent and even more extraordinary character," coach Jim Tressel said Sunday. "They've played a tremendous role in our success, especially the past two years, and we will miss them both as student athletes and young men. I'm not surprised to see that so many of them were taken in the NFL draft, and I fully expect all of them to be successful at that level."
Krenzel selected
Quarterback Craig Krenzel and offensive linemen Alex Stepanovich, Shane Olivea and Adrien Clarke were among those chosen in the later rounds. Safety Will Allen, receiver Drew Carter and linebacker Robert Reynolds also went on the draft's second day.
Stepanovich was taken in the fourth round by Arizona with the 100th pick. Allen also went in the fourth round, taken by Tampa Bay with the 111th pick.
Stepanovich, an All-Big Ten guard his senior season, also has played center and could end up playing that position in the NFL.
Allen didn't become a starter until his senior season, when he was named an All-American after making 83 tackles and two interceptions.
Three more Buckeyes went in the fifth round. The Chicago Bears took Krenzel at 148, Carolina selected Carter with the 163rd pick and Tennessee took Robert Reynolds with the 165th selection.
Olivea final pick
Offensive tackle Olivea was taken in the last round, 209th overall, by San Diego, while Philadelphia made Clarke, a guard, the 227th selection.
Krenzel was a two-year starter for Ohio State, compiling a 24-3 career record and winning the 2002 national championship. He completed 55 percent of his passes last year and threw for 2,040 yards.
Carter injured his knee last year, cutting his season short after he had caught 25 passes for 410 yards through eight games. Reynolds had five sacks and two interceptions in his career and was the third-leading tackler on the team in 2003.
Olivea was a second-team All-Big Ten selection after starting all 13 games as a senior.
Clarke started 31 games at guard and 12 at tackle during his career.
Three Ohio State players were taken in the first round Saturday: defensive end Will Smith, cornerback Chris Gamble and wide receiver Michael Jenkins. Tight end Ben Hartsock, defensive tackle Tim Anderson, punter B.J. Sander and defensive end Darrion Scott also were taken on the first day.
Other Ohioans
Two other Ohio college players were taken Sunday: Miami (Ohio) guard Jacob Bell in the fifth round by the Titans and Bowling Green quarterback Josh Harris by Baltimore in the sixth.
Bell was the second Miami player selected this year, joining the man he blocked for, Steelers first-round pick Ben Roethlisberger.
Harris is Bowling Green's all-time leader in total offense with 9,976 yards with 98 touchdowns.
