GIRARD -- A 43-year-old truck driver has been found guilty of paying for sexual activity with four teenagers who turned out to be Liberty High School students.
Charles R. Slenker of Taft Avenue, Youngstown, was found guilty Friday of procuring, a misdemeanor.
In a written verdict, Girard Municipal Judge Michael A. Bernard ordered Slenker to undergo a psychiatric evaluation before sentencing.
Slenker faces six months in prison and a $1,000 fine.
Prosecutor Robert Johnson had said Slenker turned down a plea agreement under which he would have been fined $100 and placed on probation.
Testimony
In testimony during his April 8 trial and a videotaped statement he gave police, Slenker said he knew a young woman who told him she was 19 and a dancer. In early 2002, he had her over to his Hubbard Township mobile home, where he lived at the time, and paid her for sexual favors.
In the fall of 2002, four young women went to his home and he paid them $20 each to touch their breasts. He said there was no other sexual activity, and no alcohol or drugs were involved.
He paid one girl $10 each for four pairs of underwear, he told police.
Slenker argued during trial that the sexual activity was done within the privacy of his home. He asserted that his 14th Amendment right of equal protection had been violated because he wasn't doing anything different from daily activities in gentlemen's clubs and bars.
He termed the charge against him a "double standard." The law, Slenker asserted, allows him to enter into personal relationships and have a good time with friends.
