Mrs. Cushwa to be feted during NSCC banquet

The award recognizes community service.
YOUNGSTOWN -- Anna Jean Cushwa will receive the Walter Mayhall Award Tuesday during a banquet planned by the North Side Citizens' Coalition for Community Development. The event will get under way at 6 p.m. at the Jewish Community Center, 505 Gypsy Lane.
The honoree
Cushwa, who was born in Youngstown and has lived in the city most of her life, is a founding member of NSCC and served as president and newsletter writer. She attended Cornell University, where she majored in English and international politics. Cushwa said that background helped her in her work with the NSCC.
Cushwa also served as president of the Henry H. Stambaugh Auditorium Association and was active in its renovation. She is a past recipient of the Distinguished Alumni Award from the National Association of Community Leadership Organizations.
The award is named in honor of the man who gave 25 years of volunteer service as a founding member and first executive director of NSCC.
The evening's agenda will begin with a social time at 6 followed by dinner. The awards ceremony starts at 7.
Proceeds from this year's dinner will go to the Street Tree Replacement program, a project chosen by Cushwa. Donations may be made through sponsorships at the coalition's "Good Neighbor" level or by making a special donation to the "Good Neighbor" fund.
