Jailed on drug charges
CAMPBELL -- A 34-year-old Hubbard man is being held in the city jail pending a Tuesday arraignment in municipal court on a felony charge of possession of drugs, heroin, as well as drug abuse and driving without a license. Police said Patrolman Andrew Rauzan noticed a white Plymouth driving at 11:05 a.m. Saturday left of center several times, and pulled over the vehicle on Wilson Avenue. Rauzan observed heroin and two needles in plain sight, police said. Brian Baxter of Eastwood Drive, the vehicle's driver, was charged.
Practice test for GED
CANFIELD -- Mahoning County Career & amp; Technical Center, 7300 N. Palmyra Road, is offering the official General Educational Development practice test at no cost and on a walk-in basis from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday in room C-14A. Qualified participants must be at least 18, not enrolled in high school and have an Ohio driver's license or an Ohio identification card with photo. The GED test is used for people who want to get their high school diploma. Passing the practice test qualifies participants to receive a fee waiver for the GED test. Block watch meeting
YOUNGSTOWN -- Judge Theresa Dellick of Mahoning County Juvenile Court, and Jason Lanso, juvenile court probation officer, will discuss the county's juvenile justice system at the Buckeye Eyes & amp; Ears Blockwatch meeting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. The meeting will be at Word of Grace Church, 2724 Mount Vernon Ave. The judge and Lanso will explain juvenile court programs established to help children and their families.
Soliciting applications
CANFIELD -- The Awards Committee of the Italian Heritage Foundation is accepting applications for support from local "501-C" charitable organizations. Each year, the foundation awards money gained from interest earned on its trust account to local organizations and agencies that apply. Awards will be based on need, and will be distributed after all applications have been received. Honoring the troops
STRUTHERS -- Middle school pupils will celebrate "Heroes in Our Hometown," a tribute to friends and family of Struthers residents serving in the military, May 3-7. Residents are encouraged to send photos of their friends and family in the military along with a short paragraph about each person to the school by Friday. Neurosurgeon honored
YOUNGSTOWN -- Dr. Anand G. Garg, a Youngstown neurosurgeon and a past president of the State Medical Board of Ohio, will receive the Federation of State Medical Boards' Dr. John H. Clark Leadership Award on Saturday during the federation's 2004 annual meeting in Arlington, Va. Dr. Garg has served on the federation's Examination and Special Purpose Examination committees.
