Chaney gets best of Boardman



NILES -- Senior Jeff Shaffo had three singles and two RBIs, and senior Adam Boris had two hits and two RBIs, as the Chaney High baseball team defeated Boardman 6-4 Saturday at Eastwood Field.
For Boardman, Kevin Sikora and Mike Evans, a senior, both had two hits. Chaney (9-2) lost the nightcap to Stow, 7-6 in 9 innings.

NILES -- Matt Madrid and Kevin Sikora had RBIs in the first inning as the Spartans shut down Stow at Eastwood Field. Madrid, Sikora and Dan Deluca each had two hits for the winners (6-7).

HUDSON -- Joe Pitzer had a double, single and three RBIs; Frank Turocy a triple, single and two RBIs; and Chad Baker two singles and two RBIs to pace Canfield (14-2) over Harding.
In Canfield's win over Hudson, Baker had a triple, single and five RBIs; and Turocy a double, two singles and three RBIs.

YOUNGSTOWN -- Marcus Philippi had two hits, including a double, three RBIs and two runs scored, but the Redmen couldn't overcome Southern.

YOUNGSTOWN -- Mike Byrdy slammed a grand slam and two-run double and also got the mound win in relief, as Youngstown Christian (5-0) rallied for two runs in the bottom of the ninth.

STRUTHERS -- Adam Wigley singled home Bill Christian with the winning run in the last of the eighth inning for Poland. Bret Pitzulo had four singles and one RBI to also pace Poland (6-4).
