2-vehicle crash kills S.C. woman in Greenville



GREENVILLE, Pa. -- A 27-year-old Charleston, S.C., woman died of injuries from a two-vehicle accident at North Hermitage and Rutledge roads Friday afternoon.
Carrissa Lewis was pronounced dead at 5:10 p.m. at UPMC Horizon Hospital, Greenville, just over an hour after the accident. She was thrown from a sport utility vehicle while she was in the back seat, tending to her 3-month-old daughter, Cody Nicole Lewis, who occupied a child safety seat and was not injured, Pymatuning Township Police said.
The SUV was driven by Carrissa's mother-in-law, Barbara J. Lewis, 50, of Beaver Falls, whose condition was still being determined in the hospital emergency room Friday night.
What happened
A car driven east on Rutledge by Edward C. Schultz, 66, of Merwin Chase Road, Brookfield, with his wife, Kay, 67, as a passenger, stopped at a stop sign, then pulled into the side of the SUV, which was southbound on North Hermitage Road (state Route 18), police said. Schultz and his wife were not hurt.
No charges have been filed.
