ON THE SIDE. . .
This and that from the world of Valley politics.
KERRY'S MAN: Mahoning County Commissioner Ed Reese will serve as one of 10 vice chairmen at a reception Tuesday in Cleveland for U.S. Sen. John Kerry, the presumptive Democratic presidential candidate. Reese, a Kerry delegate to the party's national convention and one of his earliest supporters in the Mahoning Valley, has raised about $62,000 for the junior Massachusetts senator's presidential bid. Tickets to the event are $1,000 to $2,000 each.
Bush's man: Mark Munroe, chairman of the Mahoning County Board of Elections and vice chairman of the county Republican group, is holding a party to raise money for President Bush's re-election campaign. The event is set for 7:30 p.m. Thursday at GOP headquarters, 621 Boardman-Canfield Road in Boardman.
Taking a toll: Gary C. Suhadolnik, executive director of the Ohio Turnpike Commission, tossed out the idea of possibly making the stretch of Interstate 80 between the Pennsylvania state line and the Ohio Turnpike, about 20 miles through the Mahoning Valley, a toll road if Pennsylvania decides to do it with its portion of I-80. It won't happen, but it wasn't the most politically astute comment for Suhadolnik, a former state legislator, to discuss with journalists. Can you imagine having to pay a toll to go from Austintown to Girard?
