HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL Grimaldi throws second no-hitter of year for Mooney

The Cardinals won on Mara Palombaro's walk with the bases loaded.

She faced only 26 batters -- two over the minimum, benefiting from a 5-4-3 double play after the base on balls.
Grimaldi also threw a no-hitter last season.
With one out in the last of the eighth inning, Mooney (12-2) loaded the bases on consecutive singles by DiAndra Dibacco, Dana Palazzo and Gina Brunetti.
Freshman Mara Palombaro drew a walk on a 3-2 count to drive in Dibacco with the deciding run.
Blue Devils (8-5) pitcher Katie Harmon (5-3) allowed six singles, including a pair by Brunetti.

MASSILLON -- Meagan Cunningham and Holly Holman each had two singles for the Spartans (10-0, 4-0 Federal League).
The Polar Bears (4-6, 2-4) led 2-1 after six innings.

POLAND -- Mallory Conger (8-1) allowed just two hits and no walks, racking up eight strikeouts.
Conger faced just one hitter over the minimum for the Bulldogs (12-1, 4-0 Metro Athletic Conference).
Steffi Graf doubled twice for Poland, which has won eight straight.
Kari Thompson led off the last of the fourth with a single.
She was sacrificed to second and stole third before scoring on a wild pitch.

Struthers 4, Alliance 3
ALLIANCE -- Ahead 1-0, Struthers scored three runs in the top of the third inning.

With one away, Miranda Polito singled home High, and a throwing air into the outfield scored Hickenbottom. Polito advanced to third on a passed ball.
On a groundout, Alliance thought it was the third out and started to walk off the field.
That allowed Polito to score the deciding run.
High finished with a double and single, and Hickenbottom had two singles for the Wildcats (3-8, 2-4) in the MAC game.
Krista Pasco led the Aviators (5-6), who rallied for three runs in the sixth, with two singles.
