HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL Such leads Campbell to eighth victory



Fitch dropped a 5-2 decision to Massillon Jackson in a Federal League game.
CAMPBELL -- Mark Such sparked a 10-hit attack as the Campbell Memorial High baseball team beat Salem, 10-6, Thursday at Roosevelt Park.
Such collected three hits, including a double and three RBIs, for the Red Devils (8-3).
Cody Dillon and Travis Milliron doubled for the Quakers (8-4).
Campbell raced out to a 5-1 lead after two innings, then used a four-run fifth to go ahead 9-3.
Massillon Jackson 5, Fitch 2
AUSTINTOWN -- Winning-pitcher Braden Scott (1-2) hit a two-run home run in the top of the fifth inning to give the Polar Bears a 3-2 lead.
Despite trailing by three runs, Fitch didn't go quietly in the seventh. The Falcons loaded the bases on three walks with just one out, but Jackson (6-7, 3-3 Federal League) ended the game with a line-drive double play.
Junior Mike Brown went 3-for-4 with a walk for the Falcons (9-2, 3-1), who remain atop the Federal League standings.
Fitch had more hits (9-7) but left 10 runners on base and committed four errors, which resulted in four unearned runs.
Bob Melnek had a single and a double, Mike Eliseo singled twice and Dom Modarelli doubled for the Falcons.
South Range 10, Springfield 9
NEW MIDDLETOWN -- Tom Dechellis went 3-for-5, with three RBIs, as the Raiders (8-4, 3-0) prevailed in an Inter-County League game.
Drew Hazel added three hits and an RBI, while Joe Marino had two hits and two RBIs, and Derek Baker two hits. Hazel also got the win.
Brad Adams led Springfield (6-4, 4-2) with three hits and two RBIs. Luke Summers, Julian Carabello, Chris Martin and Joey D'Amato each added two hits.
The Tigers rallied from a 10-3 deficit in the seventh inning.
Newton Falls 6, Warren JFK 2
NEWTON FALLS -- After allowing two runs in the first inning, Kirby Spahlinger (2-0) reeled off six scoreless frames for the Tigers (8-1).
Troy Balint doubled for Newton Falls, and Mark Rossi and Steve Orlosky doubled for the Eagles (3-6).
Struthers 4, Brookfield 3
STRUTHERS -- The Wildcats (2-8) snapped a five-game losing streak, with Jimmy Kriebel collecting two singles as he drove in a run, scored once and stole two bases.
Mike McClure (1-3) worked seven innings, with nine strikeouts, to pick up the win.
Josh Harkulich hit three singles for the Warriors.
Beaver Local 12, Wilson 6
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Beavers broke a 6-6 tie as they scored six runs in the top of the seventh inning.
Justin Montgomery and Zach Cochran each hit a double and single, and Ryan Lynch two singles for the Beavers (9-3).
Chris Truman and Matt McBride each doubled and singled for the Redmen (1-9).
