Gehring helps Ridge stay perfect in league



Springfield, Hubbard and Champion also earned league wins.
MINERAL RIDGE -- Although she allowed 13 hits, Kaili Gehring pitched Mineral Ridge High to a 13-4 victory over Lowellville in an Inter-County League softball game Thursday.
A junior, Gehring (8-0) worked seven innings and struck out five for the Rams (8-2, 6-0).
Katie Olive hit a triple, two doubles and a single; drove in six runs, scored once and stole a base for the Rams.
Everyone in the starting lineup had at least one hit for the Rams, who collected 16, with Gehring also hitting two doubles.
Losing pitcher Carla Blinsky hit a double for the Rockets (0-7).
Springfield 3, South Range 2
NEW MIDDLETOWN -- With two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning, Courtney Sheely, who had tripled, scored on a single by Colleen Platt.
Sophomore Krista Snyder (3-3) pitched a complete game for the Tigers (5-4, 3-2 ICL), with five strikeouts.
The Tigers travel to North Lima to take on the Raiders again today at 4:30.
Hubbard 6, Brookfield 2
HUBBARD -- A two-run home run by Kelly Hudy got the Eagles (6-1, 6-1) off to a 2-0 lead in the Trumbull Athletic Conference game, which ended in the sixth inning because of rain.
Winning pitcher Amanda Taylor (6-1) helped her own cause with a pair of singles. She scored once and stole a base. She had four strikeouts.
Lynle Cornell hit a double and single and scored twice, while Callie Oyler hit a pair of singles and scored once for the Eagles.
Courtney Christy hit a pair of singles for the Warriors.
Champion 4, LaBrae 2
CHAMPION -- Kasey Karr scattered six hits and struck out eight batters to lead Champion (9-3, 6-1 TAC) past LaBrae.
The Flashes scored three times in the first inning as Emily Hayes, Lauren Seafert and Alyshia Brink all drove in runs.
Kim Calderwood, who suffered the loss for LaBrae (3-4, 2-3), also doubled for the Vikings.
