Convinced that God called George Bush to be president

Convinced that God calledGeorge Bush to be president
EDITOR:
The attitude of many people toward President Bush bothers me. Since so much negative exaggerated propaganda is aired and published, I would like to write my opinion of the man.
I have always had respect and admiration for him and faith in his actions. Since I have read Stephen Mansfield's book "Faith of George W. Bush," I am more thoroughly convinced of his integrity and worth. He isn't perfect, and he never claimed to be.
Born into a loving Christian home of Christian parents, he was always involved with churchgoing people. But contrary to his critics who labeled George just a fun-loving son of a rich man, he did his share of working at jobs where he got his hands dirty, laboring along side of people from different walks of life.
When he was 7 years old, the family suffered great pain at the death of his 3-year-old sister, Robin. The grief of his mother, Barbara, worried young George so that he made up stories and told her jokes in an effort to cheer her. When she heard George tell a neighbor that he could not come out to play "because his mother needed him," that caused Barbara's recovery to begin. So George W. Bush began the role of the compassionate one early in life.
He got his first taste of politics when his father was president.
Many were surprised when he won the election for governor of Texas -- especially Ann Richards, who called him "that rich young kid." It's no secret why he was successful. If you have any wisdom, you can figure it out. It wasn't money!
During his term in office, President Bush Sr. tried to rid the world of Saddam Hussein, but political bureaucracy prevented it.
This President Bush stood his ground. We went to war with Iraq, whose leaders could not be reasoned with or reached any other way. He would not back down even though a few stood with us. It was not a popular decision.
George Bush does not act to gain approval of man. And he will not be swayed from doing what he is convinced is the right thing to do.
All this criticism by his opponents, blaming him for all the trouble in our country, is wrong. Today's problems are the result of mismanagement and wrongdoing in past generations. He won't lower himself to their standard of mudslinging.
Every morning before he brings Laura that first cup of coffee, George Bush spends a private time in prayer, Scripture reading and meditation. That's where he gets his direction for the day's action. This isn't something new -- this has been his agenda for a long time.
Some scoff at this idea, but George Bush feels that he was called by God to run for the office of the president. As the election results came in, there was question as to the outcome.
Opposition forces did everything they could to prevent his winning. There was a short hour when people were told he had lost. But that was not to be! I am convinced that it was God's will for George W. Bush to be elected our president.

Let's change the course
EDITOR:
"Stay the Course?"
I think we have been staying the course, and now you, Mr. President, want to send more men and women over to Iraq.
Has anyone asked the people how they feel? I for one have had it. I'm beginning to feel like a man without a country because I don't know who is running it -- the United States or Iraq.
Keep the rest of our troops on American soil.
