NORTH LIMA -- Teachers in the South Range School District will receive an additional day of training in the new school year.
The South Range Board of Education, at its meeting earlier this week, passed a resolution designating Sept. 7 as an extra in-service day for teachers.
Previously, the school district set aside four in-service days each school year, but added the fifth training day for the 2004-05 school year to help instructors better comply with academic standards set by the state education department.
Superintendent Jim Hall said the move is part of the district's ongoing plan to help the district meet the academic standards in every subject area.
In other news, the school board will have a public hearing at 7:30 p.m. May 17 in the high school library to consider rehiring Donald Bobovnik, special-education curriculum director.
Bobovnik retired from his position as a principal for the school district in 1996. In 1997, the district asked him to come back to work, this time serving as special-education curriculum director.
Because of new state regulations, however, school districts must conduct public hearings before offering new contracts to retired employees.
"Basically, the school board is having this hearing to comply with state regulations," Hall said. "The school district wants to formalize its relationship with Mr. Bobovnik and make sure everything meets the state's requirements."
