Modarelli's hits keep Fitch atop Federal standings



Boardman won its first game against a Federal opponent.
MASSILLON -- Sophomore Dave Diyorio worked two innings of relief to earn his first victory of the season as Fitch High edged Jackson 6-5 Tuesday in a Federal League baseball game.
Diyorio, who struck out three batters, came on in the fifth inning with Jackson runners on first and third and one out.
He immediately got out of the jam as a Jackson batter hit a groundball to Fitch shortstop Bob Melnek, who threw to second baseman John Burnich, who relayed to first baseman Mike Eliseo for a double play.
Dom Modarelli led the Falcons (9-1, 3-0) with three singles, while Mike Brown hit a double and single, and Shane Roche hit a pair of singles and a sacrifice fly that drove in the deciding run in the seventh inning.
Boardman 6, Uniontown Lake 1
UNIONTOWN -- Dan Ford homered, doubled, singled and drove in two runs, and Nate Tacsik also homered for the Spartans (4-6, 1-3 Federal League).
Kevin Sikora (1-1) singled twice and threw a seven-hitter for Boardman.
United 14, Wilson 7
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Golden Eagles (12-2) scored 13 of their runs in the last four innings of the game played at Donnell-Pemberton Park.
Rob Muhleman, the winning pitcher, hit a triple, single, scored twice and drove in four runs. Travis Boyle hit two singles and scored three times.
Brian Bailey hit three singles and drove in three runs for the Redmen (0-8).
Matt McBride, the losing pitcher, Jarvis Tabb, Nick Greer and Joe Briceland each had two hits.
Ursuline 10, East Palestine 1
STRUTHERS -- Cliff Panezich, usually a catcher for the Irish (8-5), threw a complete-game one-hitter in his first start of the year.
He had eight strikeouts and one walk.
Ursuline's Sean Satterlee had three hits and two RBIs, while Ed Rohan, Andrew Frasco and Dave Patrick added two hits each.
East Palestine fell to 1-10.
Youngstown Christian 12, Canton Heritage Christian 4
CANTON -- Patrick Bader won his first start of the season, and Mark Pecchia singled and drove in two runs in Youngstown Christian's victory.
The Eagles improved to 4-0 while Canton Heritage fell to 2-6.
Northwest 10, West Branch 6
CANAL FULTON -- The Warriors (6-5, 2-4) couldn't contain Northwest's offense in a Northeastern Buckeye Conference game.
Northwest (6-7, 2-3) broke the game open with a nine-run third inning.
For the game, Indians batters connected for 11 hits, including three home runs.
Tom Orlando, Andy Todor and Josh Winans each had two hits for West Branch. Marc Possage took the loss.
