Mineral Ridge pins league loss on Tigers



McDonald, Salem and Liberty each won league games.
NEW MIDDLETOWN -- Brian Palmer had a double, two singles and three RBIs Tuesday in Mineral Ridge High's 9-4 Inter-County League baseball victory over Springfield.
Tim Grantz added a double, single and two RBIs while Tom Desmond a double, two singles and one RBI to lead the Rams (4-4, 4-1).
Chris Ault was the winning pitcher, with relief help from Grantz.
Aaron Wood had two singles and one RBI, while Brad Adams had a double and three singles for Springfield (6-3, 4-1).
McDonald 8, Jackson-Milton 1
McDONALD -- Corey Vukovic pitched a two-hitter with 13 strikeouts, while Tyler Stanley had two doubles, one single and two RBIs to pace McDonald.
James Beedle and Rick Molinari each had a two-run single for the Blue Devils (2-5, 2-3 ICL).
W. Reserve 13, Leetonia 3
BERLIN CENTER -- Ryan Pauken collected a home run and a double, while Nick Sanders and Jeff Zatchok each had a two-base hit for the Blue Devils (6-5).
Justin Baker homered and Kyle Groszecki doubled for the Bears.
Niles 5, Champion 4
CHAMPION -- Joe Skocic's single drove in Joe Razzano with the winning run in the top of the seventh inning for Niles (5-2).
With the score tied at 4-4, Razzano led off the seventh with a single, was sacrificed to second by Kyle Leonard and came home on Skocic's single. Skocic also had a double.
Mike Conroy got the mound win in relief.
Chris Palm and Rudy Pekarovic each had a double and single for Champion (5-4).
Salem 8, Alliance 4
ALLIANCE -- The Quakers (8-3, 2-3) gave Alliance (7-4, 4-1) its first loss in the Metro Athletic Conference this season.
Cody Dillon had three hits and Grant Sevek three RBIs for the winners. Sevek also got the win in relief.
Warren JFK 5, Girard 4
WARREN -- Kevin Lee hit a two-run single in the sixth inning as the Eagles (5-4) overcame Girard (5-5).
He finished with two hits, three RBIs and the pitching victory while Steve Orlosky added two hits.
Tom Williams and Greg Barton had two hits apiece for Girard, and Nick Canterino had two RBIs.
Liberty 11, Hubbard 6
LIBERTY -- Sam Barker, a sophomore, earned the win in his first varsity start for the Leopards (1-4, 1-4 Trumbull Athletic Conference).
Aaron Pollack and Jordan Dennis each had three hits for Liberty, and Marc Doblanski added a three-run home run.
Andrew Chick and Keith Pero each had two hits for Hubbard (0-6, 0-5).
Badger 1, Mathews 0
VIENNA -- Anthony Mancini hit an RBI single in the third inning to give Badger (3-5, 3-3) the only run it needed in the Northeastern Athletic Conference game.
Mathews (6-2, 4-2) threatened in the fourth inning with runners on second and third and one out, but didn't score.
Ryan Myers had 12 strikeouts and no walks for the Braves. Matt Weymer had 10 strikeouts and two walks for Mathews.
