First of sextuplets goes home from hospital

AKRON (AP) -- Connor Hanselman is getting a sneak preview of what's about to come.
The 2-year-old's first sibling, Lucy Arlene, came home Tuesday. The rest of Ohio's first set of sextuplets -- Sophia, Isabella, Alex, Logan and Kyle -- should be there within the next week, neonatalogist Frank Kokomoor said.
All six were born Feb. 26 at Akron Children's Hospital to Jennifer and Keith Hanselman. Now the Hanselmans are preparing for life at their Cuyahoga Falls home with seven children, getting plenty of help from friends and family members.
"This will definitely be a group effort," Jennifer Hanselman, 29, said. "I know we'll have our moments. We'll try not to freak out."
The babies started out in critical condition after being born more than two months premature, but Kokomoor said they're all doing well and will be like full-term babies. That's largely because Hanselman carried the babies for 28 weeks.
"It's a remarkable length of time for so many babies," he said.
Lucy weighed just 2 pounds, 1 ounce at birth but is more than 5 pounds.
Hanselman, who rejected advice to carry just two of the embryos to term, said the family feels incredibly fortunate.
"If anyone is looking for proof of God, look at the babies," she said. "The odds are against having so many babies and having them turn out healthy. We were looking for a miracle and we got it."
