Educator to lead preserve walks

HOWLAND -- Local environmental education specialist Brice Harris will lead wetlands walks into the Howland Wildlife Preserve.
The walks will be informal and include discussion points about pond ecology, amphibian biology, flood plains, wildlife and wetlands. Harris is a curriculum and instruction supervisor for the Trumbull County Educational Service Center and specializes in environmental education and science.
The next walk is Earth Day, which is Thursday. This is the first of a series of wetland walks this hiking season. Walks are the third Thursday of each month, May 20, June 17, July 15, Aug. 19 and Sept. 16. Participants may park and meet at 7 p.m. at Shepherd of the Valley parking lot on North Road.
Participants should wear boots or walking shoes, light-colored clothing, long pants, long sleeves, sunscreen and/or mosquito repellent. Participants also may bring binoculars and field guides.
The Thursday walk is being offered in conjunction with TAMPEEL, Trumbull County Educational Service Center's environmental education program. Students from 17 Trumbull County school districts learn about the environment through hands-on experiences during three days of instruction at the township park facilities.
