Authorities arrest man on warrants in beating case
AUSTINTOWN -- Police have arrested a Youngstown man accused of beating a 54-year-old Rhode Island Drive man with pieces of aluminum earlier this month.
Johnny Donald Jr., 35, of West Judson Avenue, was arrested about 2 p.m. Monday in Mahoning County Court in Austintown on warrants charging him with tampering with evidence and felonious assault. He was in court on an unrelated matter.
The reported victim told police he was living with his niece and Donald, his niece's boyfriend, at a Rhode Island Drive apartment when the beating occurred April 2.
The man said Donald got into an argument in the yard over Donald being kicked out of the apartment. The man said he slipped and fell on the grass.
Donald then picked up two pieces of aluminum and began beating him on the head and body, the man said. The man said he unsuccessfully tried to block the blows with his walking cane. Donald eventually stopped hitting the man, reports state.
He then threatened to kill the man before leaving. The man was treated at Forum Health Northside Medical Center for cuts and bruises.
