YSU ROUNDUP IP-Fort Wayne snaps Penguins' win streak

FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- IP-Fort Wayne rallied for four runs in the bottom of the seventh to win game one of a doubleheader with Youngstown State, 7-6 and kept the momentum going in the nightcap with a 13-5 victory Sunday at Mastodons Field.
Jim Lipinski went 5-for-8 with four RBIs on the day for the Penguins, overtaking current assistant coach Andrew Clough for the school record in career RBIs with 122.
In the opener, Youngstown State held a 6-2 lead, but the Mastodons scored a run in the sixth and four more in the bottom of the seventh to snap YSU's five-game winning streak.
The Penguins jumped out to a 3-0 lead with a run in the first inning and two more in the second.
Kendall Schlabach and Brandon Caipen led off the game with singles. After Charles Schultz's sacrifice, Justin Banks' sacrifice fly scored Schlabach.
Lipinski broke the record in the second inning with a solo home run to right-center. Brian Boone also hit a solo homer later in the inning.
After IPFW scored in the bottom of the second to make it 3-1, YSU struck back with two more runs in the third. After Adam Cox drew a leadoff walk and advanced to second on a wild pitch, Lipinski ripped an RBI double down the left-field line. Jim Phillips followed with an RBI double.
IPFW scored a run in the bottom of the fourth, but YSU answered in the fifth when J.J. Newman's infield single drove in Phillips.
IPFW's Brandon Armstrong hit a solo homer in the sixth. In the seventh, Ryan Keena's two-run double tied the score and Tyler Fowler's grounder to third was bobbled as Steinbach scored.
In the nightcap, Lipinski had three hits and two RBIs, while Schultz had two hits and drove in two runs, but IPFW scored four runs in the third inning and five in the sixth.
Schlabach also had two hits for the Penguins, who visit Ohio University Wednesday.
Men's Tennis
YOUNGSTOWN -- Seniors RJ Pepino and Kevin Schaffert played in their final matches as Youngstown State (6-8) concluded its spring season by defeating Wright State 4-3 Sunday afternoon and losing to Cleveland State 5-2 Saturday.
Pepino went 2-0 at No. 1 singles, while Schaffert went 0-2 at No. 2.
Against Wright State, YSU won three of six singles matches and took two of three of the doubles matches to earn the victory. Pepino defeated Kevin Teufel, 7-6, (7-4), 6-3; at No. 4 Brian Meek defeated Brian Savino, 6-4, 6-3, and at No. 6 YSU won by default.
In doubles, at No. 1 WSU's Teufel/Scott Hayden beat Pepino/Schaffert, 8-4, at No. 2 Meek/Jason Trapp beat Savino/Presti Pierangelo, 8-5, and at No. 3 YSU won by default.
Against Cleveland State, Pepino defeatedg Eric Winn 6-4, 3-6, 7-5, and freshman Tom Barth beat Brett Aronson, 6-2, 2-6, 7-6, (7-4).
The Penguins will compete in the Horizon League championships April 23 in Indianapolis.
Women's Tennis
YOUNGSTOWN -- YSU dropped its final home match of the spring season to Wright State 6-1 Sunday.
Freshman Gina Peretti earned the Penguins' only point by beating Jenny Bagby, 6-0, 6-3, at No. 5 singles.
In other singles, at No. 1 Laura Culbertson defeated Whitney Thomas, 6-1, 1-6, 6-1; at No. 2 Audra Beckett beat Karen Najbert 4-6, 6-3, 6-0; at No. 3 Jessica Lee beat Heather Hagood, 6-4, 7-5; at No. 4 Maggie Jacobs defeated Nicole Muzechuk, 4-6, 6-3, 6-3, and at No. 6 Carla Haun beat Andrea Dixon, 3-6, 6-3, 6-1.
YSU competes in the Horizon League championships April 24 in Indianapolis.
Women's Golf
RICHMOND, Ky. -- Gina Abruzzino (Niles) finished 23rd at the Eastern Kentucky Lady Colonel Classic.
Abruzzino had a three-round score of 242 (79-83-80).
As a team, YSU scored 1,014 with rounds of 337, 334 and 343. Murray State won the event with a 919.
Other finishers for the Penguins were Lori Hatcher who was 54th with a 255 (83-80-92); Bonnie Sherman, 61st with a 257 (87-83-87), Jennie Fleiner; 72nd with a 265 (88-88-89), and Megan Bricker, 75th with a 268 (89-92-87).
Youngstown State will defend its title at the Horizon League championships April 25 in Columbus.
