Side impact
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety released these side-impact crash tests ratings for 15 midsize sedans (all vehicles were from the 2004 model year except the Nissan Altima, which was from 2005):
Honda Accord, with optional air bags: good
Toyota Camry, with optional air bags: good
Chevrolet Malibu, with optional air bags: acceptable
Hyundai Sonata, with standard air bags: poor
Kia Optima, with standard air bags: poor
Saturn L-Series, with standard air bags: poor
Chevrolet Malibu, without optional air bags: poor
Chrysler Sebring, without optional air bags: poor
Dodge Stratus, without optional air bags: poor
Honda Accord, without optional air bags: poor
Mazda 6, without optional air bags: poor
Mitsubishi Galant, without optional air bags: poor
Nissan Altima, without optional air bags: poor
Toyota Camry, without optional air bags: poor
Suzuki Verona, air bags not available: poor
