YOUNGSTOWN -- The Buy Into Youngstown program will have an open house from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church, 201 Wick Ave. Buy Into Youngstown is a coalition of housing agencies and banks with the mission of creating more people who qualify for mortgages to increase home ownership in the city. Buy Into Youngstown officials will explain their work, and lenders will talk about the benefits of homeownership and how to qualify for a loan. There also will be discussion about the housing market.
Culvert replacement
NEW WATERFORD -- Culvert replacement on state Route 46 near New Waterford is postponed until May because of too much rain in the region, Ohio Department of Transportation officials said. State Route 46 is to be closed May 10 for one week with traffic routed onto state Route 558 west to state Route 7 then north back to Route 46. RC Construction Co. and Sons of Cutler, Ohio, has the $587,000 contract for replacement of culverts on state highways in Columbiana, Tuscarawas and Belmont counties. Work began in November and is to be completed by Aug. 31.
Vets' health care
STRUTHERS -- Clifford Hayes, a disabled Vietnam War veteran from Sebring, is starting a petition campaign urging the passage of House of Representative Bill 2318, which would assure funding for veterans health care. Hayes, who served in the Marine Corps during the Vietnam War, will present the petition to the United Veterans Council at its meeting at 7 p.m. today at Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3538 in Struthers. Hayes is also on the agenda to speak on the matter before the Ohio Democratic Veterans Caucus May 3 in Columbus
