Movie producer to speakat Slippery Rock festival
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- A Hollywood movie producer will visit Slippery Rock University in conjunction with its annual Kaleidescope performing arts festival and the establishment of the Harry M. Warner Film Institute. Stephen Simon, who produced the movies "Somewhere in Time" and "What Dreams May Come," will speak on "Moving Messages: Entertainment Possibilities, Inspiring Change" at 8 p.m. Thursday in the University Union.
SRU recently launched a minor in film studies and formed the institute with the help of Lawrence County Historical Society. It's named for Harry Warner, a former Youngstowner who with his brothers opened their first movie theater in New Castle in 1907. The brothers also built Warner Theater in Youngstown, now known as Edward W. Powers Auditorium, and went on to establish the Warner Bros. film studio.
