Astros 6, Brewers 1
HOUSTON -- Roger Clemens looked as dominant as ever, striking out seven in seven innings, giving up just one run and four hits. Houston won for the seventh time in eight games. Clemens also helped break the game open with an RBI single in the fourth, putting the Astros up 3-1. It was the second RBI of his career. Jason Lane followed with a double, and Adam Everett had a two-run triple to give Houston a 5-1 lead. Chris Capuano (1-2) gave up one run and two hits in two innings before leaving with a quadriceps strain.
Dodgers 7, Giants 6
SAN FRANCISCO -- Barry Bonds homered twice and drove in five runs, but it wasn't enough for San Francisco to avoid a three-game sweep. Adrian Beltre, Juan Encarnacion and David Ross homered in a four-pitch span in the fifth inning off Brett Tomko (0-1) to lead the Dodgers to their first sweep in San Francisco since April 2000. Bonds, who tied a career high with four hits, connected twice to give him 665 homers. Jeff Weaver (1-1) allowed five runs in five-plus innings for his first win with the Dodgers, who have won five straight and nine of 12 for their best start since 1983.
Reds 11, Cubs 10, 10 innings
CHICAGO -- Sammy Sosa homered twice and passed Ernie Banks for the Cubs' career record, but Juan Castro hit a two-run triple in the 10th to send Cincinnati to a wild win. Adam Dunn hit two homers for the Reds on another windy day at Wrigley Field. With the wind gusting out at 30 mph, the teams combined for seven homers.
Padres 6, Diamondbacks 5
SAN DIEGO -- Ryan Klesko hit a three-run homer off Matt Mantei in the ninth inning, giving San Diego its second straight one-run win against Arizona. Mantei (0-2) relieved to start the inning with a 5-3 lead, faced four batters and didn't get any out. Mark Loretta led off with his third single of the game, Brian Giles walked and Phil Nevin hit an RBI single. Klesko followed with his first homer of the season.
Braves 3, Marlins 2, 10 innings
ATLANTA -- Andruw Jones scored from first in the 10th when Miguel Cabrera lost a fly ball in the sun, as Atlanta completed a three-game sweep. Jones, who homered in the sixth, drew a two-out walk from Matt Perisho (2-1) and came home on Cabrera's miscue. The Braves won despite losing two key players and striking out 15 times. Chipper Jones went down with a hamstring injury and Marcus Giles was ejected for arguing a called third strike. Marlins pinch-hitter Ramon Castro hit a two-run homer off Kevin Gryboski in the eighth.
Rockies 8, Cardinals 5
ST. LOUIS -- Todd Helton homered for the third straight game. With the bases loaded in the ninth inning, St. Louis' Albert Pujols hit a long drive that was caught at the right-field wall for the final out. Vinny Castilla hit his fourth homer and Kit Pellow had a three-run double for the Rockies, who roughed up Woody Williams (0-1) to end a three-game skid.
Phillies 5, Expos 4
PHILADELPHIA -- Doug Glanville homered leading off the ninth inning to give Philadelphia its fourth straight win in its new ballpark. Glanville hit a 3-1 pitch from Rocky Biddle (0-1) over the left-field wall. Montreal (2-10) lost its seventh straight, its longest skid since dropping nine straight from Sept. 23 to Oct. 1, 2000.
AMERICAN LEAGUE
Yankees 7, Red Sox 3
BOSTON -- Alex Rodriguez remained hitless for the series, but Derek Jeter went 2-for-4 with two walks and an RBI single in the six-run third inning to lead the Yankees. Gary Sheffield doubled twice, and Paul Quantrill (1-0) held Boston to one hit over 22/3 innings after Jose Contreras almost blew a six-run lead in the third. Gabe White, Tom Gordon and Mariano Rivera combined for 62/3 scoreless innings.
Orioles 7, Blue Jays 0
TORONTO -- Eric DuBose, B.J. Ryan and Buddy Groom combined on a four-hitter, completing Baltimore's first sweep at Toronto since June 24-26, 1994. Miguel Tejada had four hits and Jay Gibbons hit a two-run double for the Orioles, who allowed just 12 hits while outscoring the Blue Jays 23-5 in the series. Javy Lopez added an RBI single in the ninth to extend his hitting streak to a career-high 14 games.
White Sox 5, Devil Rays 0
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Esteban Loaiza (3-0) pitched a two-hitter for his fifth career shutout and 11th complete game. Jose Valentin and Paul Konerko hit solo homers for the White Sox, who improved to 8-4 for the first time since 1992. Jeremi Gonzalez (0-3) lost his ninth straight decision dating to August and could be sent to the bullpen.
Twins 8, Royals 3
MINNEAPOLIS -- Jacque Jones had two doubles, a triple and four RBIs, and Minnesota ran its win streak to five. Luis Rivas hit a two-run homer and Doug Mientkiewicz had three hits for the Twins, who completed a three-game sweep. Minnesota has scored four or more runs in 10 of its first 12 games. Kansas City has lost six in a row for the first time since dropping eight straight from Sept. 1-10, 2002.
Mariners 4, Rangers 2
SEATTLE -- Raul Ibanez hit a two-run homer, Bret Boone and Scott Spiezio added solo shots, and Seattle earned its first series victory this season. Joel Pineiro (1-1) allowed two runs, six hits and four walks in 62/3 innings and struck out five.
Athletics 7, Angels 1
ANAHEIM, Calif. -- Rookie Bobby Crosby homered and drove in three runs, and Barry Zito pitched six innings. Zito (2-1) allowed a run and four hits over six innings, striking out four and walking one. Chris Hammond pitched the final three innings of the five-hitter for his first save.
