NEWARK, Ohio (AP) -- A 35-year-old man has been charged in the April 2002 killing of a woman, four months after authorities dismissed charges against another man.
A Licking County grand jury indicted Christopher Williams on charges of aggravated murder, aggravated robbery, aggravated burglary and escape Friday in the death of Rhonda Boggs at her home in Pataskala. Boggs was stabbed 19 times in front of her 2-year-old daughter.
Prosecutors say DNA matching Williams' was found on the suspected murder weapon, a black-handled kitchen knife, under Boggs' body, according to police and court files.
Charges were dropped in December against Richard Robinson, 32, of Lancaster, who had initially confessed to the crime.
Williams, who played in the same band as Boggs' husband, David, broke into their home three years ago and stole a guitar he later sold to buy drugs, according to records.
He has told police he was not in Pataskala, about 20 miles east of Columbus, the night Boggs was killed.
When he was arrested, Williams had a credit card and an earring belonging to Boggs, according to court records.
He has been in the Licking County jail for a year since his arrest on a charge of receiving stolen property. Williams faces a maximum sentence of 48 years to life in prison if convicted.
