PREP TRACK ROUNDUP Leigh's strong showing helps Mineral Ridge place 2nd at Boots Hawkins



COLUMBIANA -- Mineral Ridge's Levi Leigh set a meet and stadium record in the 110-meter high hurdles, finished first in the 300 hurdles and placed second in both the long jump and the 100 to finish as the boys points leader in Saturday's Boots Hawkins Invitational at Columbiana High School.
The Rams finished second behind Waterloo in the seven-team meet, named for the former Columbiana track standout who won six state titles from 1921-22.
Columbiana's Corey Guy won the 400 and his teammate, Andrew Peacock, set a meet record in the 200 semifinals before finishing second in the finals.
Crestview's Eric Gustafson set a meet record in the 100 and his teammate, Scott Raschilla, set a meet record in the shot.
South Range's Mike Leskosky set a meet record in the high jump and the Raiders also won the 4x800 relay in a meet-record time.
Southern's Nate Jones won the discus.
Girls
South Range's Andra Sanders set meet and stadium records in both the 1600- and 3200-meter runs as the Raiders finished fourth behind Waterloo, Chardon and Mineral Ridge in the eight-team girls meet.
Columbiana's Ashley Greenawalt set a meet and stadium record in the discus, while her teammate Ashley Stewart set a meet record in the long jump.
Mineral Ridge's Shalyn Russell won the 100.
Laker Invitational
ANDOVER -- Girard High School's Kevin Hetrick took first place in the 100, 200 and 400 as he helped the Indians to a second-place finish in the 12-team Laker Invitational track and field meet Saturday at Pymatuning Valley High School.
Girard senior Gary Chaney won both hurdle events and the Indians also won the 4x800 relay.
Other area winners included LaBrae's Kyle Dalton (high jump), Mathews' Adam Hughes (long jump) and Bristol's Andy Swango (3200).
Girard's Sarroya Townsend won the shot put and was second in the discus as the Indians placed fourth with 45 points.
Girard's Chelsea Morris won the 100 and Mathews' Tara Ford won the high jump.
Perry won both the boys and girls titles with 116 and 140 points respectively.
Butler Invitational
BUTLER, Pa. -- Chaney's Latalia Jones placed first in the 100 in a meet record at Saturday's Butler Invitational.
Antoniette Smith of the Cowboys placed fourth in the 100. Jones was second and Smith seventh in the 200.
Smith, Jones, Shanekque Jennings and Tiawanna Rogers of Chaney placed second in the 4x100 relay in a school-record 51.6 seconds.
Erie McDowell won the team title in the field of 30 teams.
