PREP SOFTBALL Strong hitting guides Mooney past Bulldogs



Ursuline lost its first game of the season in the Toledo St. Ursula Invitational.
EAST PALESTINE -- The Mooney High softball team swept a doubleheader Saturday as it topped East Palestine 12-6 and 8-1.
In the first game, Petrina Morocco (3-0) worked four innings to pick up the win. Mara Palombaro hit a triple, three singles and scored three times for the Cardinals. Diandra Dibacco added three singles, three stolen bases and two runs scored
Jenny Yokley led the Bulldogs with three singles.
Freshman Colleen Courtney went 3-for-3, all singles, and scored twice to pace the Cardinals (8-1) in the second contest.
Courtney (3-0) also pitched a complete game, with six strikeouts. Stefanie Zizzo hit a double and single and scored twice.
Allison McMillen led the Bulldogs with a double and single and scored their only run.
Magnificat 9, Ursuline 4
TOLEDO -- The Irish (10-1) suffered their first loss of the season in the Toledo St. Ursula Invitational.
Alessandra Parry hit a two-run first-inning home run, one of her two hits. Ashley Koval added two hits.
Pitcher Maureen Cearfoss (9-1) also lost for the first time this season.
Ursuline 10, Parma Padua Franciscan 3
TOLEDO -- Alessandra Parry hit a bases-loaded triple in the fifth inning, and Maureen Cearfoss got the win for the Irish.
Parry had two hits, while freshman Natalie Palermo added three and Ashley Siembieda two.
Chagrin Falls 1, Champion 0Champion 6, Chagrin Falls 0
CHAMPION -- Chagrin Falls scored the only run of the game in the top of the eighth inning.
Losing pitcher Lauren Seafert (2-1) pitched a complete game, with eight strikeouts.
In the second contest, Champion scored five runs in the third inning, with Jessica Carpenter hitting a two-run double and Tara Shope a two-run single.
Sophomore Kasey Karr (2-1) pitched a complete game, with nine strikeouts, to pick up the win.
Western Reserve 4, Lowellville 0
BERLIN CENTER -- Katie Harmon had three hits and an RBI, and she struck out 14 batters, to lead Western Reserve.
Harmon (3-2) pitched a three-hit shutout, with three walks, to key the Blue Devils (6-3, 3-1) in the Inter-County League game.
McKenzie Mowery added a hit and two RBIs for Western Reserve.
Western Reserve 12, Sebring 3
BERLIN CENTER -- The Blue Devils were in control, 10-1, after three innings.
Katie Harmon and McKenzie Mowery each had two hits, and Terra Young drove in two runs, for the Blue Devils. Olivia Myers was the winning pitcher.
Rachel Hawkins and Kayla Faudree each had two hits for Sebring.
Lakeview 10, Girard 7
GIRARD -- Lindsay Whetzel, Michelle Antonelli and Amy Downs each had three hits for the Bulldogs (3-2, 2-2 Trumbull Athletic Conference). The Indians are 2-5, 0-3.
