For the first time, "Simpsons" creator Matt Groening steps onscreen (animated, of course) on "The Simpsons" (8 p.m., Fox) to sign autographs for the good people of Springfield at a sci-fi convention.
Julie Benz ("Taken"), Marsha Mason ("The Goodbye Girl") and Paul Le Mat ("Melvin and Howard") star in "The Long Shot" (9 p.m., Hallmark Channel), an inspiring film based on a true story. Abandoned by her husband in a strange town, a young mother and equestrian (Benz) decides to get back on her feet by getting back on her horse. A legendary dressage champion (Mason) and a caring barn manager (Le Mat) offer her guidance. Then she learns of a local riding contest with a purse of $25,000.
