TELEVISION Q & amp;A

Q. On the March 23 episode of FX's "The Shield," I witnessed an Emmy-worthy performance by a young actress portraying a desperate prostitute. She reminded me of the actress who plays the studious lab partner and romantic interest of Joan's brother Luke on "Joan of Arcadia." If it is the same actress, I'd like to know something about her and what else she has done. -- J.V., from Rhode Island
A. Mageina Tovah is definitely an up-and-comer. Her guest-starting stint on "The Shield" was a gritty departure from the geeky Glynis she plays on "Joan of Arcadia." Tovah is a Nashville girl who now calls Hollywood home. She has theater, commercials, modeling and even music videos on her r & eacute;sum & eacute;. Past TV appearances include guest parts on "NYPD Blue," "The Guardian," "Boston Public" and "Buffy the Vampire Slayer." Next up for her is a role in the "Spider-Man" sequel set for release this summer.
Q. "The Outlaw" (a 1943 Howard Hughes film) was originally 117 minutes, however about 14 minutes were edited out because of the censors. After more than 60 years, I think we are now adult enough to view the original cut. When and where may we view the original? -- J.P. Jr., Portsmouth, Va.
A. An unedited version of the Western, starring Jane Russell and Jack Buetel, was released on DVD in 1998. You can rent or buy it, or you can watch it on Turner Classic Movies, when the commercial-free movie channel shows the complete movie. Scheduled air dates are May 18 and June 21.
