PULASKI, Pa. -- Fishing season begins today at Deer Creek, and Pulaski Township supervisors are working to make sure children and the handicapped can participate.
Supervisors approved the hiring of Charles Bell of Pulaski on Friday to replace the ramp available to children and the handicapped to the water, just behind the Pulaski Township building. Bell was to finish the work Friday. He was paid $711.
Fishing season begins today and runs through May 16. It will resume May 18 through June 1.
Supervisors stocked that portion of the creek with fish Tuesday and will stock it again April 27 and May 7.
Township supervisors also agreed to tag four fish that if caught can be redeemed for four $50 savings bonds. The fish will be placed in the children- and handicapped-accessible area.
The ramp was damaged last summer when heavy storms ripped through the area.
Fence repairs
Supervisors also agreed to repair fencing in the ball fields near the creek that was also damaged by storms last summer.
Austintown Fence was hired to remove the backstop and sideline fence from the old ball field and add 180 feet of fence for a cost of $2,100. The company will also install the backstop, side fence and outfield fence in the new field area for $3,530.
Some of the work will be paid for with money the township got from the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the rest will come from the township general fund. The exact breakdown was not available.
Supervisor Dan Abramson voted against hiring Austintown Fence. He refused to explain why after the meeting.
