DISTRICT ROUNDUP Chaney raps 32 hits in sweep of twinbill
Brothers Adam Boris and Aaron Boris keyed the Cowboys past Harding.
WARREN -- The Chaney High School baseball team collected 32 hits -- 16 in each game -- as the Cowboys swept a doubleheader from Warren Harding 9-4, 10-9, Friday.
Adam Boris led the Cowboys (6-1) with five hits and four RBIs. His brother, Aaron Boris, picked up four hits including a double in each game and gained the decision in the nightcap.
Dave Baco and Jeff Shaffo each had four hits while Rick Hlinka, Tom Enyeart and Tim Gordon each doubled.
For Harding (7-4), Joe Spain tripled and Patrick Elias and Justin Byler each doubled.
Champion 10, Liberty 0
CHAMPION -- Sophomore Mark Jackson pitched a three-hitter with six strikeouts and one walk for the Golden Flashes (3-2, 3-0 TAC) in a five-inning Trumbull Athletic Conference game.
Jackson (2-0) added two hits as did Chris Palm, Alan Stevens and Mike Harrison.
Liberty's Zack Guerrieri had two hits and Joe Pontuti the other hit for the Leopards. Jeremyk Hume got the loss after working the first 22/3 innings with Aaron Pollack in relief over the final 11/3 innings.
Brookfield 13, Hubbard 5
BROOKFIELD -- David Stanish went 4-for-4 including a pair of home runs to lead Brookfield.
Stanish drove in six runs and also doubled.
Pymatuning Valley 6, Mathews 4
VIENNA -- Justin Drapp rapped a double and single and drove in three runs to pace Pymatuning Valley, which held off Mathews' last-inning rally in a Northeastern Athletic Conference game.
Jim Mason got the win for Pymatuning Valley (3-6, 3-0 NAC) with relief help from Steve Alderman. Mason had five strikeouts.
Kevin Forsythe led Mathews (4-1, 3-1 NAC) with a double, single and two RBIs, while Ben Mackall had two singles.
The Mustangs scored two runs in the last inning with two outs, but left the bases loaded.
Canton South 5, West Branch 3
CANTON -- Steve Kopache had a pair of hits and drove in four runs as Canton South toppled West Branch.
The winners (8-0) had only five hits off losing pitcher Tad Gaspar, while winning pitcher Josh Lonca allowed just three hits.
West Branch (4-4) was led by Tom Orlando who had four hits in four trips including a double, while Josh Winans added two hits.
