BASEBALL Fitch rolls to gain a semifinal berth

CONWAY, S.C. -- Mo Hassen slugged a homer and triple, drove in four runs and scored three times to power Austintown Fitch's 19-hit attack against South Range that produced a 19-9 win in a quarterfinal game of the single-elimination Hawaiian Tropic II Tournament.
The game was called after six innings because of the 10-run rule.
Mike Eliseo added a double, two singles, one RBI and three runs while Jeff Kotel contributed a double, single and three runs to aid Fitch (7-0), which advanced to play a semifinal today at 10 a.m. against Cage Springs of Roanoke, Va. The Falcons are 4-0 in the tournament.
South Range wins three
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. -- South Range posted three victories Friday in the Hawaiian Tropic Classic Baseball Tournament before being ousted by Fitch.
The Raiders swept a doubleheader from Jamestown, N.Y., 8-5 and 4-3, and then routed Loris, S.C., 20-1, before losing to Fitch, 19-9.
In the first game with Jamestown, the Raiders trailed 4-3 before scoring five runs in the top of the sixth inning. Justin Forgac led off the inning with a homer and Greg Rohan added a three-run blast.
In the second game, the Raiders trailed 3-1 before pushing across three runs in the sixth. Drew Hazel pitched a complete game four-hitter and fanned eight, while Joe Marino added a double.
Against Loris, the Raiders scored 15 times in the third inning to blow open the game. Tony Darkadakis pitched a five-inning one-hitter, striking out eight, while Justin Forgac and Danny Justin each homered.
Mineral Ridge 4, McDonald 3
MINERAL RIDGE -- With two outs, Matt Bussey, a pinch-hitter, singled, stole second and scored on Jeff Scott's single in the bottom of the 12th in an Inter-County League game.
Bussey was a senior pinch-hitting for Brian Palmer. Scott, a senior, finished with two singles for Ridge (3-1, 3-0 ICL). Senior Brandon Linert (2-0) had seven strikeouts in five innings of relief. McDonald's James Beedle had three hits.
Western Reserve 6,Jackson-Milton 3
NORTH JACKSON -- Jake Zactchok pitched a complete game seven-hitter and struck out 12 batters for Western Reserve.
Luke Srock and Nick Sanders each had three singles for the Blue Devils (3-4, 1-2), while Adam Myers added two hits. Sanders and Myers each drove in two runs.
Matt Shields and Zack Tomaino had three hits for the Bluejays.
Springfield 7, Jackson-Milton 3
NEW MIDDLETOWN -- Springfield catcher Mike Sobnosky went 3-for-3 with a homer and two RBIs to lead the Tigers on Thursday. Brad Adams added two RBIs for Springfield (4-1, 3-0).
Tim Shaw tripled and Adam Keck had a double for the Bluejays (0-4, 0-2).
Howland 6, Warren JFK 5
WARREN -- With one out, Howland's Ben Leece scored the go-ahead run in the top of the eighth after a home run by JFK's Steve Orlosky in the bottom of the sixth sent the game into extra innings. Leece finished with two singles and one double while Tony Pozega had two singles for Howland.
For JFK (1-3-1), Orlosky, a senior, also had a single while Mike Witherow had two singles and Kevin Lee a single and double.
Salem 4, Niles 0
SALEM -- Travis Milliron tossed a three-hit shutout for Salem in a Metro Athletic Conference game.
Milliron struck out four and walked just one batter, while the Quakers (5-2, 1-2 MAC) rallied for three runs in the fourth inning. Milliron, who also had an RBI double, recorded his second-straight shutout after throwing a no-hitter against United last week.
Kevin Robertson, who allowed just four hits in five innings, got the loss for the Red Dragons (3-2, 3-2 MAC).
Campbell 12, Struthers 10
STRUTHERS -- The Red Devils (5-3) unleashed a 20-hit attack, taking a 10-5 lead after three innings.
Lonnie McQueen had four singles and Antoni Zembillas had a triple and a double for Campbell.
