University to host Earth Day events



YOUNGSTOWN -- Youngstown State University will host two events in recognition of Earth Day.
The Mahoning River is the topic of the 2004 Earth Day Symposium from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Monday in the Ohio Room of Kilcawley Center. YSU faculty and environmental experts will talk about the river's history, its condition and actions needed to improve the river's quality. A panel discussion will follow. The symposium is sponsored by YSU Support Services' Division, the Youngstown Environmental Studies Society, the Student Government Association and the Mahoning River Consortium.
YSU Earth Day will be celebrated from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 21 in front of Kilcawley Center. The event will include displays and activities from the Green Team, Geauga-Trumbull Solid Waste District, Mill Creek Metro Park, the Sierra Club, Audubon Society, Northside Coalition, Mahoning County Soil and Water and various campus organizations. NASA's mobile educational unit featuring the latest missions to Mars also will be on hand. The event is sponsored by YESS, Support Services' Recycling and Student Government.
