INDIANS NOTEBOOK | From Jacobs Field

Honoring "Grover": Former Tribe player and manager Mike Hargrove threw out the first pitch to a boisterous ovation from the crowd. "I've been asked to do a lot of things in my career and life, and I don't know if anything has touched me more than this," Hargrove said. "I've been told that you're not really appreciated until you're gone, and I was hoping to get confirmation of that today." As manager from 1991-99, Hargrove led the Indians to five straight American League Central Division titles and two AL pennants. He's currently a senior adviser in the organization, assisting minor league staff members and serving as an advisory resource for the major league coaching staff. "You want to be patient, especially early in the season," Hargrove said. "You want to show the guys you believe in them, and stay the course. Sometimes it can be frustrating to do."
Top hitters: In addition to Travis Hafner, left-fielder Matt Lawton provided some pop in the Indians' lineup. He hit a solo home run in the seventh inning to put Cleveland ahead 6-2. "He started that this winter," manager Eric Wedge said of Lawton strengthening his body. "He's hard on himself. He's determined to have a good year, and I believe he will." Of Coco Crisp's two singles, one drove home a run in the fourth inning. Omar Vizquel added two singles for the Tribe.
Oops: Fortunately for the Indians, starter Cliff Lee wasn't hurt by a ridiculous error on Crisp, the center-fielder, in the sixth inning. With two outs and no baserunners, Crisp allowed Michael Cuddyer's easy fly ball to pop out of his glove. Lee, however, got Jacque Jones to ground out and end the inning.
On the farm: The Indians' full-season minor league clubs have begun their seasons, and their rosters are made up of numerous former Mahoning Valley Scrappers. Here's the breakdown: At Triple-A Buffalo, pitcher Kyle Denney, infielders Zach Sorensen and Eric Crozier; at Double-A Akron, pitchers Kyle Evans and Scott Sturkie, catcher Clint Chauncey, infielders Nate Grindell and Joe Inglett and outfielder Ben Francisco; at Class-A Kinston, pitchers Chris Cooper, Matt Davis, Juan Lara, Kevin Martin, Ryan Prahm, Keith Ramsey, Brian Slocum, catcher Ryan Garko, infielders Shaun Larkin, Anthony Lunetta, Pat Osborn, Eider Torres, outfielders Dennis Malave, J.J. Sherrill and John Van Every; at Class-A Lake County, pitchers T.J. Burton, Adam Hanson, Dan Rich, Scott Roehl, Chip Southerland, catchers Javier Herrera, Josh Noviskey, infielders Luis Cotto, Kevin Kouzmanoff, Ryan Mulhern, Bill Peavey and outfielders Mike Conroy, Ryan Goleski and Ricardo Rojas.
Anniversary: On July 23-25, the Indians will celebrate their 10-year anniversary of Jacobs Field with a three-game series against the Kansas City Royals. The top moment in the ballpark's history, the Indians determined through a vote, was Tony Pena's game-winning home run in the 13th inning in Game 1 of the 1995 Division Series playoffs against the Boston Red Sox. That home run gave the Tribe its first postseason win since Oct. 11, 1948.
