ABC to air preview for next 'Potter' film

Chances are, the core audience for ABC's broadcast of "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" in May already knows the movie. The network, therefore, is sweetening the pot for its premiere of the film. At the end of the May 9 telecast, ABC will show a 10-minute preview of the next film in the series, this summer's "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban." The movie is scheduled for a June 4 release.
The broadcast will also feature interviews with stars Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson and scenes from "Sorcerer's Stone" that weren't part of its theatrical release.
Movie studios have turned to TV to air extended trailers for big upcoming releases several times in recent weeks. Universal used its corporate sibling, USA, to show the first 10 minutes of "Dawn of the Dead" during a broadcast of the movie "Final Destination" last month, and a 21/2-minute trailer for "Spider-Man 2" is set to air during Thursday's episode of "The Apprentice" on NBC -- a day before it hits theaters.
"Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban" is based on the third book in J.K. Rowling's series. In Harry's third year at Hogwarts, a convicted killer named Sirius Black escapes from the wizard prison, Azkaban, and heads straight for Harry.
